Air Jordan 16

In 2001 Nike introduced Michael Jordan's 16th signature sneaker. This time, though, after over a decade, Tinker Hatfield was not the person responsible for designing the sneaker. Instead, Air Jordan 16 was designed by Nike Senio Footwear designer Wilson Smith.

Smith had two challenges ahead of him. He had to design a sneaker that would stand up to its predecessors' high standards and combine sporty and formal style. After all, Michael Jordan, who was then serving as president of the Washington Wizards, had to wear something appropriate both for the court and the front office. Well, it is fair to say that Smith met the challenge.

Air Jordan 16 combines everything fans love about the MJ's brand, borrowing several design cues from famous Jordans, such as the patent leather from Air Jordan 11, and adding that fresh new spark. The most noticeable feature in Air Jordan 16 is the detachable magnetic lace shroud, which made the sneakers visually intriguing. It also allowed 16s to move between the courts and offices.

And if you are wondering whether the 16s fulfilled their hybrid task, they did. The Jumpman famously wore their "Ginger" colorway during the 01/02 preseason with the Wizards. With all that in mind, many treat 16s as the sneaker that transferred the brand to a fashion statement, and it is hard not to agree with them.

As of today, the 16s are available in a wide variety of variations and colorways. At Kicks Crew, you will find all the Air Jordan 16 releases, all at great prices.
